About Shelly Morgan

  • Inspiration

I grew up in Leeds, West Yorkshire where my creative skills were apparent from an early age, I was never without a sketchbook. I attended Leeds College of Art & Design before moving to Oxfordshire, aged 18, to complete my BA (Hons) in Graphic Design & Illustration. Working as a digital technician for a photographic company, I began painting in my spare time, selling pieces at art fairs and online. Within a couple of years, painting took over my work, I was so pleased to be able to do this for a living. I now live in Bedfordshire with my husband and two daughters, we love it around here, we have the best of both worlds, outstanding beautiful countryside and we are just a few stops on the train from London. I never have to look too far for inspiration.

My work is mainly landscapes and seascapes inspired by travels through Thailand with those dream-like beaches with ever-changing vibrant sunsets.

I paint scenes in bold, vibrant colours to relay the emotional impact that I have felt, generally I will work from pictures that I have taken but much of the detail I add is compositional, rather than true-to-life, I like to allow the viewer space to meander within the painting.
